The real Super Bowl! Both of us have only lost one game, ours to them. Our main concern is #25, who got 20 offensive rebounds against us on 1/25/95. But, Mike is not allowed to play this game, as per NCAA rules, him being ejected last game! This means it's all down to me to stop #25 from getting boards! I play the whole game, but he plays most of it, too, so we both get pretty tired. I kept him to one offensive glass in the first half, on the last play, when he put back in a missed shot to take the lead 36-38. It was a sour note to end on, but I had done a very good job, if I do say so myself. Let's skip ahead to one minute ten seconds left in the game, CMS stags trailing by 7. Now began the most amazing comeback I've ever witnessed at any level! We get a steal, and Scott Marshall hits a three! Then, another turnover and a bucket for the Stags. Cal. Lu gets fouled, but their player misses the front end of a one-and-one, and we have the ball, down by two, with 20 seconds left in the game. The crowd is on their feet, they believe in us! Cal. Lutheran tries their best to tighten up their D, but a double screen allows Sean Smith to break wide open at the top of the 3-point arc. He gets the ball, and I see it in his eyes, it's going in. 7 seconds left, the ball goes in, and the Kingsmen call a time-out. Then we do. They throw the ball in from half-court, right to #25. I'm covering him, and he starts to drive by me, towards the lane. Stan (down from Varsity) helps, and the shot goes up with three seconds left. It's off!!! I grab the biggest rebound of my career, and am fouled with one second left. We're in the penalty so I get to shoot one-and-one. I miss the first one (sort of on purpose), and they attempt a full court shot at the buzzer, which falls way short. We win! Now we're in first place, alone! The starters were Ryan G., Scott M., Sean, Scott A., and I.
